About to-BBB
To-BBB is a Dutch biotechnology company in the field of enhanced drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier. The company is developing novel treatments for brain disorders by combining existing drugs with its proprietary brain drug delivery platform. The company’s vision is that the treatment of currently unserved brain diseases will be best achieved by safely enhancing the blood-to-brain delivery of drugs. to-BBB is headquartered in The Netherlands at the Leiden Bio Science Park and has established a fully owned subsidiary, to-BBB Taiwan Ltd., in Taipei, Taiwan.

About the speaker
Pieter Gaillard obtained a MSc degree in biomedical sciences from Utrecht University, and a PhD degree in pharmacology from Leiden University at the lab of Prof. Douwe Breimer. During his time as post-doc at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam he managed the scientific group focusing on ocular angiogenesis.

He is an award-winning researcher who published in several high-ranking journals. Pieter pioneered the development of a Blood-Brain Barrier model in tissue-cultured cells. Based on his unique know-how with this model system he decided to start his own biotech company: to-BBB technologies BV.

He managed to obtain a grant from the Dutch government to initiate an academic spin-off in 2001 and attract credible partners for research (Bert de Boer from Leiden University) and business (Alfred Nijkerk from VenGen) for the successful execution of his plan. Pieter Gaillard was CEO and CSO of to-BBB from its inception until 2008.
