Marcel Wijma is partner and co-founder of Van Leeuwenhoeck Research (VLR), an independent research institute in Life Sciences founded in 2004. The firm’s mission is to provide independent, in-depth research reports and due diligence for investors and companies within this specific industry sector. VLR’s business team developed a specific model that is unique in evaluating biotech companies. VLR was acquired by SNS Reaal in 2006 after which Marcel started to work for the brokerage subsidiary SNS Securities as a senior equity biotech analyst. At SNS Securities, Marcel built up a biotech team focused on attaining a leading position in biotechnology. In 2009, Marcel bought back VLR and re-established the company. | |

Prior to VLR, Marcel co-founded the investment fund De Mello Life Sciences to focus on the selection and investment of private and exchange-listed Life Sciences companies. Marcel has worked as a financial analyst at several investment banks in the Netherlands, including one of the largest asset managers in Europe, Robeco Group. In addition, he held analyst positions at Petercam, Bank Oyens & van Eeghen where he specialized in the analysis and assessment of public and private Life Sciences companies. Mid 2010, VLR will open up an office in NYC in order to build bridges between US investors and European companies on the one hand and US companies and European investors on the other hand. |
