Use of Gene Therapy to cure CNS-related diseases

About the presentation

Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics (AMT), has what may be the first gene therapy to be approved for marketing. Gene Therapy is a powerful new technique, with the potential to cure chronic diseases with a single treatment. Glybera® - AMT's lead product for Lipoprotein-Lipase Deficiency - is filed and validated by the EMA for Marketing Authorization. Gene Therapy can also be applied to non-inherited diseases as well. AMT is exploiting this cutting-edge technology to develop real curses in the area of CNS diseases like Parkinson Disease and Duchenne Muscular Dystropy.

About the speaker
Harald Petry, PhD worked for 10 years in academic institutions, including the German Cancer Center in Heidelberg and the German Primate Center in Goettingen in the areas of vaccines and gene therapy. In 1999/2000 he moved from academia to Jenapharm a pharmaceutical company in Germany, to establish a gene therapy working group. In 2002 he joined Berlex Biosciences Inc. in Richmond, CA, USA to work as group leader in the gene therapy department. In 2007 he joined Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and became head of research. During his career he published more than 50 articles in peer reviewed journals and is coauthor of several patents.
